Clear vision helps children to succeed

Pediatric Eye Exams Provided by Our Houston Optometrists

Subtle issues could indicate your child needs glasses, such as difficulty seeing the board from his or her seat. Even younger children can have eye problems. Ideally, a routine visit to an optometrist can help detect pediatric eye problems early. Eye exams can prevent a problem from worsening and help us understand how to correct the issue effectively. Corrective eyewear, for instance, can improve your child's academic and sports performance. Our team at Pearland Eye Care in Houston is here to help with your child's vision care.

Vision Screening

Part of eye exams for children includes a vision screening. For children who are too young to read, our optometrists will provide a shape exam. Your child will need to read off a series of shapes. Children who are able to identify letters will need to look through a device that magnifies letters at different powers. This helps our eye doctors determine if your child needs corrective eyewear and what strength. Our optometrists will also provide your child with a color blindness test.

Eye Exam

Part of the eye care your child will receive includes a thorough eye examination. During the exam, our eye doctors will look at the outside of your child's eye to examine the eyelid and look for any visible issues with the eyes, like a lazy eye. Our optometrists will use a magnifying device to assess the inside of your child's eye, such as his or her lens, retina, and optic nerve.

Eye Tests

The doctor will ask your child to follow an item with his or her eyes to ensure they work together correctly. If your child has trouble reading, let us know during their pediatric eye exam. Our practitioners can test to see if your child has an eye-tracking problem or other vision issues.

Prescription Eyewear and More

If your child suffers from nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, our doctors can fit him or her with the right pair of glasses. We can also work with older children who are able to use contact lenses. If your child has an eye-tracking problem or other similar issues, we can recommend eye therapy.
